Dear IASP members,

Welcome to our website to present Monterrey as host for the IASP 2023 Joint Regional Division Meeting for Latin & North America.

Monterrey is the industrial capital and host of important global companies, and it has undertaken the challenge of transforming its industry and economy to enable the transition to a net-zero carbon world, leveraging technology and innovation as essential pillars of resilient economic growth. Our new state government is beginning to roll out programmes which provide an opportunity to ‘build back better’ and reorient innovation activities towards less polluting technologies that can pave the way for a greener and more sustainable economy.

With the strong support of the State Government, the innovation ecosystem is based on the triple helix, with close collaboration of society. One important member of this ecosystem is the Research and Technological Innovation Park, PIIT, the largest technological and scientific Park in the country. With 110 hectares and 50 research centres (at its maximum capacity in 2030) it has positioned itself as a true referent of open innovation in the State and a role model in Mexico. I want to invite you to get to know what we have achieved in a little more than 15 years and what we are striving for: to be one of the most competitive cities in the world and the best place for entrepreneurs to launch a science and technology-based business.

The event theme will be "Getting to the next level: STPs & AOIs as economic drivers in their communities". Innovation ecosystems are key in driving sustainable economic development in their cities and regions. The IASP North American and Latin American divisions will jointly explore the strategies that different ecosystems deploy to boost their communities, and speakers will share their experiences on important topics such as collaboration, multi-stakeholder engagement, distributed leadership and other successful approaches to accelerating a whole ecosystem, including ways to attract FDI, best practices in soft-landing programmes and initiatives to retain local talent and fast-growing scaleups.

Hope to see you in Monterrey,

José Alfredo Pérez Bernal
